On October 22, 2014, Emma Lazarus High School received an official proclamation from the City of New York in honor of its #1 placement on the Newsweek list of best high schools for low-income students.

Emma Lazarus High School was profiled in Newsweek magazine's "Top High Schools 2014" issue (September 8, 2014), and named #1 school in the U.S. for low-income students, as well as #20 out of all high schools across the nation.

English and Journalism teacher, Sandy Scragg, was featured on the New York Times Learning site on January 31, 2014, with a project from her Journalism class last spring.
Gift of Life Scholarship
Emma Lazarus Senior Awarded the Gift of Life Scholarship
Senior Kpiebom (Ulrich) Kogda was one of only five students citywide to be awarded a $2,500 scholarship for his entry in the Gift of Life Scholarship competition, presented April 16, 2013.
Award for Classroom Excellence
Ms. Yang Wins Award for Classroom Excellence
ESL teacher, Victoria Yang, was one of only 10 New York City teachers to receive the Award for Classroom Excellence from the NYC Teaching Fellows, presented on June 5, 2012.
Soccer Champions
ELHS Soccer Team Are NYC Champions!
Our soccer team pulled through to take the title of Fall 2012 Champions in the New York Independent Soccer League!
NYU Arts Program Acceptance
Emma Students Accepted to Competitive NYU Arts Program!
Congratulations to Saidkamol Javadov and XiaoTing Zhao, who were both accepted to NYU's Future Artist programs for high school students for the Spring 2012 semester. Saidkamol was accepted to the Future Filmmakers program, and XiaoTing was accepted to Future Dancers & Dancemakers. Hundreds of NYC students applied, but only 15 students were accepted into each Future Artist program.
Sony Video Contest
ELHS Junior chosen as Finalist in Sony Video Contest
Emma Lazarus junior, Saidkamol Javodov, was chosen as a finalist in Sony's Video Contest for high school students. To enter, students had to produce a scary movie at Halloween time. "Punishment," which Saidkamol filmed at Emma Lazarus, stars Gulish Javadova, Fanta Sacko, Jose Veloz, and Ms. Scragg. Visit our school Vimeo channel to watch the award-winning film!
